MINDFULNESS TRAINING FOR ATHLETES

As a former collegiate women’s basketball player, mindfulness-based training for athletes is near and dear to Dr. Sara’s heart. Dr. Sara worked with the Division I University of Oregon basketball, track & field, soccer, baseball, softball and football teams for several years. They say that at least 80% of athletic performance hinges on mental state – perception, concentration, and confidence. Athletes also highly benefit from training in stress reduction, anxiety management, sleep hygiene, mental training, emerging adult issues, and skills for tackling personal problems off the court or field. We offer workshops, didactics & sessions in:

  • Mindfulness Training for Athletic Performance - attention control, injury prevention, cognitive strategies for increasing confidence & precision.

  • Mental Health & Wellbeing Skills Boot Camp for Athletes - signs of common mental health problems (including TBI), skills-based tools for coping with anxiety, depression, relationship conflict, sleep problems & stress.

  • Mindfulness & Cognitive Skills for Academic Performance - test-taking & relaxation techniques, study skills, time management.

  • Mindfulness-based Team Building - improving communication, resolving team in-fighting, building trust.

  • Education & Skills Training for Coaches & Staff - concrete skills for coaches & athletic staff in teaching stress reduction, facilitating team cohesion, monitoring signs & symptoms of common mental health struggles, and “how to” guidance for talking to athletes about challenges (e.g., injury, performance declines, homesickness, learning disabilities, academic probation).
