WHY MINDFULNESS?
Life has no shortage of stressful events, unpredictable changes, and rocky transitions. Thankfully, life also contains millions of moments, both large and small, of joy, love, passion, relief, and straight up strangeness. We are sometimes painfully cut off from these moments of pleasure and wonder - tired, fearful, and overwhelmed by the shear volume of "to-dos." Humans are super good at stressing, worrying, and lingering on past sufferings, mistakes, and regrets. There are evolutionary advantages to this! (I promise!) But alas, humans are also incredibly resilient. Learning and practicing mindfulness and self-compassion can help us cope with the painful events that are out of our control, and befriend ourselves and those around us with more acceptance and understanding. Mindfulness can also help us open up our senses to the pleasures and wonders that are right here and right now in this very moment.
